At Bad Bugs Pest Control, we offer pest control and prevention services for bedbugs, mosquitoes and rodents in Homewood, Alabama. A major part of the pest control and prevention process is identifying which type of pest has infested your home or business.
Bed Bug Control
These insects are rusty brown and mahogany in color, but they look more red after a blood meal. Bed bugs range from 1.5 to 5 millimeters in the immature stage of life and grow to 6.35 millimeters as adults. They can enter your property by hitchhiking on animals and shoes as well as in boxes and suitcases. As nocturnal insects, bedbugs live in tiny crevices and cracks during the day and crawl out at night to feed on blood. Although they don’t transmit diseases, their bites are annoying and cause itchiness.
There are about 170 different types of mosquitoes in the country. These flying insects vary in color, but they are generally gray with green, iridescent blue, silver or white scales. They have narrow, oval bodies and measure between 6 and 10 millimeters in length. They breed in soft soil or stagnant water, and the females search for blood meals by detecting the carbon dioxide that you exhale and your body heat. They can enter your property by hitching a ride on you or a pet or by simply flying in. They are known for carrying various diseases such as dengue fever, encephalitis, malaria, West Nile virus and yellow fever.
Several types of rodents may enter your home, so we will give you a brief overview of each:
- House Mice – These rodents are light brown to black in color and measure about 2 inches excluding the tail. They can carry fleas, lice, mites and ticks into your property as well as turn food foul and cause allergies with urine and droppings.
- Deer Mice – With the same color as house mice except for a white underside, deer mice can grow to between 5 and 8 inches long. They can transmit the hantavirus through their urine and carry deer ticks, which transmit Lyme disease, into your property.
- Roof Rats – These rodents are black in color and measure 16 inches long including the tail. They became notorious for spreading the bubonic plague in Europe and can spread other diseases. Roof rats also turn food foul.
- Norway Rats – These rodents may be black, brown or gray in color and can grow to between 7 and 9.5 inches long. They are also known to spread numerous diseases and turn food foul.
All of these rodents can get into your home or business through the holes around plumbing or electrical inlets. They may even climb through bathtub and sink pipes and holes in the walls. The easiest way for them to enter, however, is through doors and windows that don’t have screens. Along with their threat of disease, rodents constantly chew on substances. When they chew through electrical wiring, they present a fire hazard.
